This beautiful 1896 home is quite a showcase for the spirit of Historic Oakwood. Home to Victorian era antiques, hand-woven oriental rugs, a dual-sided fireplace, and lofty ceilings throughout, shortcomings are hard to come by at this address. The only thing lacking here was a well-functioning kitchen which ample storage. This is a common issue with older homes, and here at Pell St. Studio we address this problem on a regular basis. Although the kitchen at 405 Polk underwent an update in circa 1990, it was still missing enough cabinet space and flexibility for the bustling family of four. In order to meet their needs, we reduced the 3 large windows over the sink down to two windows. This allowed us to install more upper cabinets for dish storage here, while still flooding the space with natural daylight.
