317 Pell Street

DSC_0175This bungalow is bursting with life inside and out. With two children and a dog, the home owner was looking for a little more space and privacy. One of the major obstacles for this addition was making sure that it blended in with the original house and subsequent additions. The new floor plan connects a new small bedroom and full bathroom off of a small existing utility hall. The addition transformed this hall into a formal entrance into a beautiful child’s room. As you enter the room you are drawn to the custom designed built-in book cases and desk area which frame a large window out to the well tailored backyard. The new bathroom off the bedroom gives the child privacy as he grows into adulthood. Black tile floors with a modern sink and shower makes a sleek new bathroom for a soon to be teenager. Of course Dad can not be forgotten, a small screened in coffee porch was added directly off the master bedroom. Pennsylvania blue slate stone floor, ship lapped wood siding, and beautifully stained bead board ceiling gives this area a nice tranquil feel. A great place to start the morning or round out a nice day.

Pell St Studio has also recently designed a second renovation to 317 Pell St.The construction is in its final stages. The expansion of the kitchen into the sunroom created a much more open kitchen full of light and added another layer of functionality that was missing before. The kitchen floors are a remilled pine that blends with the existing floor through out the house. The bamboo base cabinets and island warm the kitchen up and are paired with a cool gray paint color and a carrara marble tile backsplash that runs all the way to the ceiling. The leathered charcoal gray counter top unifies the two color schemes and creates a very natural feeling aesthetic. White lacquered upper cabs will finish out the kitchen and are in the process of being installed. The washer and dryer have been concealed in a bamboo cabinet with a piano hinged top for top load access. We have to make every space count in these quaint bungalows.

This house was on the Candlelight Tour last year, photos from the event posted below.
